MOMENTS

MOMENTS

spooned in one-ness
whirled
into a world

of their own -
they can let go
                     of worldly woe

reality will dawn
upon them
far too soon

and warmth caresses

AND WARMTH CARESSES

a day of brightness
and warmth
caresses

a wildly inflamed
frame
and brain

the opioids
assisted
a belated entry

into day
but thankfully
nature

proffered
a welcoming
charm

and other joys of life

AND OTHER JOYS OF LIFE

tears, anger,
and other joys
of life

numb my brain -

access the darker
recess
of a shattered mind

only
to emphasize
the limitations

of a failing
bodily
frame

Cementing Relationships

CEMENTING RELATIONSHIPS

Seeking a concrete image
to convey
             a pre-stressed thought
I lay foundations
for a fettered space.

The blue-print fails
the structure
              falls
far short of my emotion.

Set in my ways,
unable to explore
               the breaking strain
my need will carry.

Construct a hermitage
of words;
              contain
a solitude
upon the pristine page.

TWICE REMOVED

and here is the simple text of the same poem, in case of difficulty reading the illustrated poem

TWICE REMOVED

Today the sky
is one removed
from second-hand

the space
of window-door
is boarded up

the new skylight
reveals
a mottled blue white

ceiling. And we
sealed off
held captive

to constructor’s
whim

RESTLESS

RESTLESS

shattered but even so
muscle mind and bloated
intestines resist

the urge to sleep
each yawn stifled
by fear

of what new ailment
will inhabit this aching
hulk of flesh skin and bones

should my defences fail
discomfort is all
both yielding and resisting

sup far too deeply
on a scarce reserve
of stamina

Maggie 18

Maggie

But I’m eighteen tomorrow
be nice to me
you’re being horrible –
I don’t really feel eighteen
so immature, naïve in many ways
isn’t it horrible to think
I’m eighteen tomorrow –

You must be nice to me
it’s my birthday
tomorrow
I’m eighteen.

Don’t be so nasty -
I’m strong you know
I took five boys on
one day –
I’ve got the bruises

But don’t be –
oh, Malcolm
you are horrible
being nasty when
it’s my birthday tomorrow.

Speaking with eyes
laughing and weeping –
dejected
trying to be happy –

Smiling sweetly
Informing me she’d cry
in a minute –
because
she’s eighteen tomorrow.

Consultation

Having just posted FRUSTRATIONS of a Medical and Medicinal Kind on 'The Word of Sinna Luvva' blog the resurrection of this poem seemed appropriate.

WORDS FAIL - (A Fell Revisited)

                                                                                        WORDS FAIL

These words do not ring true,
cannot contain the tread
of rubber sole upon the beaten track,

the slide of stone beneath the feet,
the rustling of leaves
among the tangled roots.

These words cannot ring true;
as roots erode the step
whose shelf they form –

my words fail to express
the stressful joy, fail to commune
with nature. These words

do not permit the real footfall.
The fell remains

Unconquered.

a flawed new poem

  a loss of kilter

sometimes it feels as if
the whole wide world
is out of sorts

at other times
I know
that is the case

perfection
 was never the intent
quite simply
my faltering goal
