For These Small Mercies (we proffer thanks)

For These Small Mercies (we proffer thanks)

Today, so far at least,
is one of gentle shattered-ness;
welcome relief

from yesterday’s griping
pain and aches.
An ever present undertow,

of generalized discomfort,

still leaves the space
for a richly varied range
of sensory attacks.

Will it be muscles,
joints, gastritis, or other
less easily defined

components of
the neurological kind.
Today at least

I have enjoyed a time
of gentle relaxation,
an ease of body

and a calmer mind.

dis-ease is everywhere - a new illustrated poem

this is fresh off the press - both the poem and the illustrated version here were sculpted this very day!

this poem is straight off the press - one of those rare occasions when the words gave themselves in a relatively short space of time. Expressing my current state of discomfort and dis-ease in some ways enables me to cope better with this frustrating ailment (moderate ME - myalgic encephalomyelitis)

burdock

burdock

the gnawing pain
increases its intensity
in elbows, wrists and knees,

adheres to despondency
like burdock
to coarse clothing

and I, the bystander,
can only stare
into a void of despair

observe
my own decay -

words fail to proffer hope
they only weave
a crude blanket

around an emptiness
which only faith
can fill

Restless - Illustrated Poem

Although I published the text only version of this poem earlier in the year, I am now posting this illustrated version as the poem seems to reflect my most recent post on 'The Word of Sinna Luvva' -

A CRY of SELF-PITY – an ATTEMPT to EXORCISE the PAIN

and warmth caresses

AND WARMTH CARESSES

a day of brightness
and warmth
caresses

a wildly inflamed
frame
and brain

the opioids
assisted
a belated entry

into day
but thankfully
nature

proffered
a welcoming
charm

restless night - a poem

RESTLESS NIGHT       #ME

each tentative turn
plays prelude
to a scream

toes stroked
by contact
with the sheet

shriek
at the burn
they feel

oppressive muggy day
exacerbates
the old familiar
aches & pains

the rain siles down
breaking
the skies dark gloom

the clouds grimace
now bears
a sunshine smile

just another day

just another day

striving to ignore

the sundry aches and pains

the flesh is heir to

I sit and watch

the rains incessant flow –

birds flit

from shrubbery to feeders

wallow in puddle baths  -

I struggle

with a vague desire

to don a coat

wonder if I

dare venture out

to taste

the sodden air
